Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s recent trip to Gujarat included a lesson in construction that might come in handy in the ongoing slum upgrading project.

And being the MP of one of Africa’s largest slums, the PM set aside a special day to share his experiences from Asia with his constituents in Kibera.

He told Katwekera slum dwellers that he wanted the Government to borrow a leaf from Gujarat where multiple-storey building are constructed with the top storeys leased out to the rich while slum residents inhabit the lower ones.

But Kibera residents, who have set their eyes on owning their buildings from top to bottom, did not appear too impressed with this plan of inviting wealthy outsiders to live above them, literally.

They started murmuring among themselves, making it difficult for the premier to expound on his idea. Raila soon discovered his explanation had proved too difficult to grasp. He then challenged them to take a trip to India to learn more about what he was saying.

"I think you have not understood what I am talking about. You need to travel to Gujarat to see what a good idea this is," Raila advised. Thanks Issac
